The Centre of Information Technology (BME IK) was founded by Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) in 1998. Its name has been changed to Public Administration's Centre of Information Technology (BME IK), without change in its operations.

The goal of BME IK is to initiate, organise and coordinate cooperation between the University, other research groups and industry partners for various national, international R&D projects. The Centre utilises and coordinates its own resources, as well as the resources of the University to build cooperation with the IT industry. BME IK strives to take part in highly knowledge intensive IT development projects in order to be able to improve the competitiveness of national SMEs through technology transfer.

BME IK has ongoing cooperation with numerous national and multinational companies and research institutes. It works with government and administration organizations to aid them in solving their IT tasks.
